John 5:19-24
19So Jesus answered and said to them, “Most positively, I say, the Son is not able to be doing anything of Himself unless He sees the Father doing, for whatever He is doing, these also the Son likewise does. 20For the Father affectionately loves the Son and shows to Him all which He Himself does, and greater works than these He will show to Him, so that shall be marveling. 21For even as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, so also the Son makes alive whom He wills. 22For neither does the Father judge anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son, 23so that all shall be honoring the Son just as they honor the Father. The one not honoring the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. 24Most positively, I say, the one hearing My word and trusting the One having sent Me has eternal life and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life!
Good Day Child of God! "Father? Your Will Be Done!" It is my sincere hope that all of you that read these verses can understand them. I have heard that a few of you may have a problem with them, but this is what we have as the closest to what was written that, for me at least, is available to Study.
Keep in mind that over time, in fact we can observe how short the time can be, that parts of language change meaning. Even if at first it is subtle, before more than an few years meanings can change completely. The idea that the number of words at the time of Biblical writings and their copying were so small compared to our dictionary in this day and time, make it plain what was said.
Today's easy lesson: Jesus is speaking to the Jewish hierarchy and to His Apostles, perhaps a few others, but not many. The question has to be, "What do you think are doing, or teaching, and in fact, who do you think you are!?" There is no doubt that Jesus is never intimidated when spoken to, in fact recall, He set up this meeting by speaking to the man he healed near the Sheep Pool. He needed to explain as He had before, and will again, about the reason for the Sabbath. To sum it up, the Sabbath was created for mankind, not for God. We never have picked up on that as Christians have we?
What is the message? Jesus came to point to the Father, and conversely, the Father looked back at Jesus. Jesus knowing what the Father wanted, Jesus followed through. The reality is that Jesus Judges you and I, yet the Father set the reason for the judgement. If you don't Trust that Jesus is of the Father, that the Father has given all power to Jesus, you deny the Father. If you deny the Father, God, you deny the Greatest Gift of all. No, not keeping you out of hell. Nope, not a great, healthy and wealthy life here on earth, none of that sort of thing. Jesus did what He did, suffering nearly beyond human ability, endured the disparate feelings of being left on His own as the Father looked away from that Cross, leaving Jesus to die on His own. Later to be Resurrected from the dead, and for what reason? To give you who Trust these things, the Gift of Life, forever. These are not my words, they're right here in our verses for this Study. Why do we complicate this simplicity? Please, I implore you, start praying right now. By praying I mean talking as though you were sitting right next to your Father and tell Him any and everything. Build that relationship, just as Jesus tells you He did it above. What a wonderful example, and another simple Truth. Allow the Father's Will to be your will, Life goes so much easier that way. Have a Grace Day!
