John 5:31-40
31“ If I testify concerning Myself, My testimony is not true. 32Another is the One testifying concerning Me, and I know that the testimony is true which He testifies concerning Me. 33Have sent to John, and he has testified to the Truth. 34But I do not receive testimony from a man, but these things I say so that shall be saved. 35That one was the burning and shining lamp, and were pleased to be very glad for a while in his light.
36“ But I have the testimony greater than that of John, for the Works which the Father gave to Me that I should finish them, the Works themselves which I am doing, they testify concerning Me that the Father has sent Me. 37And the Father having sent Me, Himself has testified concerning Me. Neither have heard His voice at any time nor have seen His form. 38And not have His word remaining in, because whom that One sent, this One do not Believe. 39Search the Scriptures, because think in them to be having Eternal Life, and these they are which testify concerning Me. 40And are not willing to come to Me so that shall have Life.
Good Day Child of God! "Father? Your Will Be Done!" What Jesus is discussing with the Jewish, let's call everyone Religious, people is Universal Truth until that day it is not. God at one point will not have to make the Belief in Jesus' Works the difference between Eternity with Him or Death. We'll get into details of Hell below.
This is the striking difference between what the Bible teaches in the area of the reward for being a Believer as opposed to what the Religions in the name of Christianity teach. One teaches life in heaven, some wondrous playground, or hell some ignominious place of constant punishment. Then there is God's way which is either Eternal Life with purpose, or Eternal Death which serves no purpose.
Today's easy lesson: The John Jesus is referring to above is John the Baptist. This brings about a larger group of people because John had quite a following, but at this moment he is in jail, meaning many of his followers are with Jesus. Jesus to talking both to them, and the Jews, all religious in a fashion, because even those that were following John the Baptist, were not understanding the importance of works. They believed in their works, where as their works were of no significance, yet works were necessary. Then whose works would be needed? Jesus'. Jesus did it all, because that is the way the Father wanted it, and if you didn't Trust in that you were fooling yourself.
What is the message? The teaching goes beyond what Jesus is doing for mankind due to the Father's requirements. It teaches the Later Day Christians, those after Pentecost, and Gentiles, that began to bring in as part and parcel of being saved, the opposite of Salvation, that being Hell. So far they are in a place of difficulty. Has Jesus, or we should say has the Apostle John, brought up Eternal Punishment at all in any of the readings so far? No. Why not? Those that followed John the Baptist and Jesus didn't have a concept of Hell. Sincere people that misunderstood what Jesus mentions as a comparison to death bring this up much later. This belief is similar to Books in the Bible that discuss Purgatory, a pre-heaven place that any left over sin within a person is purged out of them before they get into heaven. This teaching comes from the Roman Church, and is not found in any other Bible but theirs. This picture of Hell is a rather unimportant issue to Salvation as far as it appears the Father is concerned; The uninterrupted and forever severe punishment for not accepting the Gift of Life. How can that be said? Because it is not said! Again, it is simple, yet mankind needs reasons to control people, so another superstition or religious teaching along with many others is layered one on top of another. None of which has anything to do with the Freedom that becoming a Christian is all about. To learn these things, to be assured of your place in the Father's Heart, talk to Him. Over and over again, until it is so much a part of your daily routine, that it becomes natural. By doing that, when tough times come, you have His Peace. When that day comes when your last breath is eminent, you will have His peace. Don't just read or listen and go on encouraged. Put your mind into action and talk to your Dad, the only One who can make a difference in your Life. Have a Grace Day!
