John 5:10-18
10Therefore the Jews were saying to the one having been healed, “It is a Sabbath! It is not Lawful for you to take up your cot.” 11He answered them, “The One having made me well, that One said to me, ‘Take up your cot, and be walking about.’” 12So they questioned him, “Who is the Man, the One saying to you, ‘Take up your cot, and be walking about?’” 13But the one having been healed did not know who He is, for Jesus left unnoticed, a crowd being in that place.
14After these things, Jesus finds him in the temple and said to him, “Look! You have become well! No longer be sinning, lest something worse should happen to you.” 15The man went away and told the Jews that it is Jesus, the One making him well.
16And for this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus and were seeking to kill Him, because He was doing these things on a Sabbath. 17But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” 18Therefore, for this reason, all the more the Jews were seeking to kill Him, because not only was He breaking the Sabbath, He also called God His own Father, making Himself equal to God.
Good Day Child of God! "Father? Your Will Be Done!" After reading this group of verses and then some of those to come, we could continue on to several more parts, but we won't. The idea here is to point out the obvious sin from the Ten Commandments and how they are handled, or not.
The Apostle John from his point of view is writing down his memory as to what happened that day. I don't believe he knew what Jesus was up to, but Jesus did. Do you see the way Jesus is working the Religious here, or are you focused on what seems to be the center of attention, the man who was healed and the warning from Jesus?
Today's easy lesson: At the first reading you would think to yourself, well if I am healed, no matter when, I better be good, or I will get something worse. I realize Jesus didn't say that, but that is what people turn simple truth into when they think of themselves all the time. Just as a reminder why do most people read the Bible? To understand how to serve God more righteously, or how to learn to be good enough to be Blessed in every part of their life? There is no wrong answer, as the saying goes it is what it is. If you are looking to God for all the good things in life, and how to show Him you understand, or at least you are trying to understand how to act, work, pray, do, whatever it is and one of those things is reading your Bible, not studying your Bible, reading it. Have you ever noticed, no one ever says, now go and study your Bible? Getting back to the point, if you are doing all these things to stay good with God, you are wasting your time. Your reward is in what you are doing.
What is the message? There are only 35 different Sects of Christianity large enough to be counted as "Top" out of about 33,000 different Christian divisions in the world. We are one all right, one in that we want God to think like us, act like us, do what we want when we ask, the way we want to ask, and the way we feel is correct. That is not Christianity, which is Religion. That's what the Jews were, still are, a Religion. Did the Father ask them to become a Religion? I don't see it in the Bible. Is Jesus divided by 33,000 or even by 35? The Apostle Paul was taken back by the whole idea. Who did Jesus come to challenge and take apart piece by piece, the average Temple attending Joseph and Mary, or the Jewish Leadership? Jesus went out of His way above to bait the guy He healed into finding the leaders so He could teach them about His Father, not have them tell Him what they want done and when. It's all been done for you, on the Cross, from the Resurrection, and the Gift is not the forgiveness of your sins, nor a good life, it is Life, forever. Why do you test the Father by confessing something that He took care of two thousand years ago? Why do you say you will be obedient when you are not? Why do you forever ask for more and more, or move forward and then ask for your Abba, Daddy, Father to Bless your decisions? If that is you, you are a person interested in Religion, but if you want your Father's Favor you will be satisfied with His Gift of Life in Christ Jesus. Serving, worshiping, and Living out of a thankful heart, not out of greed. Better to live in need than to live in greed. Ask the woman that gave a penny that day at the Temple when Jesus and the Apostles saw her. You can bet she had more peace than all the rest combined. Have a Grace Day!
