John 6:60-71 "New Year, Same Exciting Message!" (Longer New Year Introduction)

John 6:60-71

60Therefore, many from His disciples having heard, said, “This word is harsh. Who is able to be hearing it?” 61But Jesus, knowing in Himself that His disciples are grumbling about this, said to them, “Does this cause to stumble? 62Then if shall be watching the Son of Humanity ascending where He was before? 63The Spirit is the One giving Life; the flesh does not accomplish anything. The words which I have spoken are Spirit and are Life! 64But there are some who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from beginning who they are, the ones not believing, and who is the one will be betraying Him. 65And He said, “For this reason I have said, ‘No one is able to come to Me unless it has been given to him from My Father.’”

66From this many went away of His disciples to the things behind and were no more walking about with Him. 67So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do not also want to be going away, do you*?” 68Then Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom will we go? You have Words of Eternal l Life. 69And we have come to Believe and have come to know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!”

70Jesus answered them, “I Myself chose the twelve, did I not? And one is a devil!” 71Now He spoke of Judas Iscariot, of Simon, for this one was about to be betraying Him, being one of the twelve.

Good Day Child of God! "Father? Your Will Be Done!" We are back, and I hope unto the age, as the Bible would put it. It is not my hope that counts however, it is the Father's Will. I know that kind of sounds overly religious. In fact so much so, I sometimes cringe when I say it, because it makes me sound like I don't have any say over my life.

In fact, I do! That is I do have say over what I do and think and can decide what it is that I want to buy, invest in, where I want to play, who it is I want to date or marry, just about anything and everything in life I can make the choices that make me feel good at the moment. When I was younger, I did such things. After all, my parents weren't going to live my life for me, the local Priest surely couldn't, and certainly as a normal hormone driven human being, there were things I didn't understand as far as the why or wherefore, but I knew what I wanted, and how often!

Today's easy lesson: Before there was a grown up in this body of mine I had decided to become a person of God. A Priest. I wanted to serve God for all the wrong reasons, but I wanted to do it for certain. My Mom stepped in a put a stop to that, as the local Roman Catholic Church was helping me all along the way. I was young, I had no idea what it really meant to be a Priest, and for certain, as I said, I wanted to be a Priest for all the wrong reasons. I came from a fairly poor family, we were not destitute mind you, but we spent the winter sleeping in rooms where you could see your breath at night. My Dad didn't work much, so there was lots of stretching the food dollar to make meals that tasted delicious to me, as my Mom became an expert cook, but our home was always frantic with one issue or another. Not only was money tight, but love was dispensed like some kind of allowance. If we did well, we got some smiles, if not, better not to go home until very late. No instead, love seemed to be set aside in a love savings account to use when needed, not for just any foolish thing. All this made the calmness of the Priesthood look wonderful. Your own room, food to eat in privacy, clean and neat living quarters, and the ability to teach and work with young ones. It was a dream to think of such things. God? Well Priests I was taught were God's representative on earth, so how could you lose? My Mom knew better, because she had seen things in her life she knew I would not understand, and as I commented before, she put a damper on my plans.

How does this apply to our verses above? You and I see the world and we think we see it all. The Bible for example. We tend to take it literally, yet the Book is about the Spirit, both the Spirit that is God, and the Spirit that marks us as the Father's Children. We read Bible Stories, like the birth of Christ Jesus, the Inn, the donkey, the manger, and the shepherds and it is all so touching. The same thing happens about the Crucifixion, the Old Testament Bible accounts of Abraham and Sarah, Moses, David and on and on we could go with exciting stories that are so entertaining. Do we see the reason for these people, their commitment to the Father, and their actions? Rarely. We love to celebrate, remembering how Jesus told everyone within ear shot that "If you don't believe like little children, you have no place in the Kingdom of Heaven." Obviously paraphrased. Here is the issue. The Father did all that was accomplished through these people and the stories that accompany them give you and I an idea of God's thinking. There was a reason for it, and that reason was not to entertain you as though you were four years old for your entire lifetime. You are to mature, grow in wisdom, remember the stories, but more, the reason for them, to bring mankind back to where they came from, a True Child of God. If that is the case you become a Believing child, but you are acting out of wisdom, not in a childish manner. We have made the mistake in our thinking that God is Roman Catholic, or an Evangelical, or a Lutheran or some other sect. He is the Creator, the One and the Only, the One. We need to grow in wisdom, so we will focus on our "Leaning" for the next many Studies as the Father directs. Why? So that those that want to live a Life of peace, love, and joy will, along with the thought that the future is not in the Rapture, but eternity in Heaven. Lastly, the journey will be easy because there is no punishment in your relationship with God. How do I know? Because Jesus took care of that on the Cross. It is all good. Have a Grace Day!
