John 7:14-20 "God's Law Or Moses Law?"

John 7:14-20

14But now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the Temple and began teaching. 15And the Jews were marveling, saying, “How does this One know letters, not having learned?” 16Therefore, Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not mine, but of the One having sent Me. 17If anyone is willing to be doing His will, he will know concerning such teaching, whether it is from God or I speak from Myself. 18The one speaking from himself seeks his own glory, but the One seeking the glory of the One having sent Him, this One is true, and unrighteousness is not in Him. 19Has not Moses given the Law? And not one does the Law. Why are seeking to kill Me?” 20The crowd answered and said, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?”

Good Day Child of God! "Father? Your Will Be Done!" Just before typing the body of this Study, I watched a small portion that Morgan Freeman the actor has done on Nat-Geo on God, probable existence, miracles and so on. It is a series and has several parts if you care to give yourself something to get you to get into the Bible in more depth.

I bring this up because when I first typed the Scriptures above I was tired, actually more than tired, and as I looked to start the Study, my mind could not have been more blank. I decided to take a rest and start later. Here is the result from giving the Spirit a chance to speak through a rested brain.

Today's easy lesson: There are three basic lessons above and we need to understand them so our Faith will go to a deeper level. First of all Jesus is speaking to a few people in the Temple that go there on this special occasion to pray and learn. Imagine the large Temple grounds with its many gates (porticoes, entries, areas), and in many areas, different groups of people standing, listening to teaching, or having a conversation concerning God and Israel. Jesus is just in one of the groups. The Jews as they are called are really people of stature, not just any normal Joseph. They are educated, more, they are educated to the point of a college degree and beyond. When they wonder where Jesus got His degree, they called them letters, they couldn't understand, because the type of people that could afford a degree mostly knew one another, and what they learned was not unlike this day and age, were taught virtually the same theology. They didn't have classrooms and campuses at that time, they were taught by a single, more mature, elder, lawyer of the Law of one sort (Sadducee) or another (Pharisee). Jesus had His Father, God, as His mentor and teacher, so it was tough to argue with Him. It was also insulting to these ego driven Jews. Lastly, we come to a part of the reading that is possibly new to most of you. Jesus talks about Moses giving them the Law. Like me, when I first read these words my thought was he gave them the Ten Commandments, the Law. Not so fast. God gave them the Ten Commandments, they were brought down and hurled at the golden calf breaking into many pieces. They were remade, additionally Moses wrote the Laws that you will find in Deuteronomy and Leviticus. So you see there is the Law or Ten Commandments, and what Moses wrote to further separate the Israelites from what they learned in Egypt. All important background to understand.

How does this help you in your daily walk? Did you notice that Jesus could read the people He was speaking with? He had a keen ear, He caught a word here and there, looked, listened, payed attention to body language, and could make people believe He was reading their minds. No doubt He could do that to, but it doesn't say He did that. Did you notice what the big egos that go against Truth did above? They try to take over the argument my speaking louder and louder, and by making a joke of the person that is actually winning the argument. Smart? No. Smarmy? Yes, and in the end, God is not amused nor is He angry. He knows what is going on in mankind, and the place to be is on His side. He made that easy. The more you know, the more you find that the path is not only easy, it is interesting. Keep close to your Father. Have a Grace Day!
